Our History

Set within the breathtaking landscapes of Limpopo, Hannah Game Lodge carries the story of a land sculpted by time and nature’s strength. The very name ‘Limpopo’ comes from the Sepedi phrase diphororo tša meetse — ‘strong gushing waterfalls’ — a reminder of the life and beauty flowing through this region.

Here, the rolling hills and sweeping rivers reveal more than scenery; they hold the spirit of adventure, the calm of misty valleys, and the wonder of untamed wildlife. From mountain vistas to cascading waterfalls, every view invites reflection, discovery, and awe.

Hannah Game Lodge was founded as a sanctuary where this natural beauty could be preserved and shared. Today, it stands as a place where heritage, wilderness, and hospitality come together to create an experience as timeless as the land itself.

Your Hosts
The Kinnear Family

The story of Hannah Game Lodge begins with the Kinnear family. When Fred George Kinnear first set foot on the farm Luncarty near Ohrigstad, he could not have imagined the path ahead. On his second visit, a Black Eagle soared above him — a sign he took as destiny, binding him to this land forever.

On 28 February 1992, Fred, his wife Hannetjie, and their daughter Selize purchased the farm with a shared vision: to create a sanctuary where conservation and hospitality meet. The land was named Hannah, meaning ‘a gift from God.’

What began as a modest homestead soon grew into a beloved retreat. By 1996, Hannah Game Lodge opened its doors as an official lodge — and over the years it has flourished into the sanctuary it is today, welcoming guests from across the globe.

The Land We Call Home

Limpopo is a province shaped by nature’s strength and beauty. Its name comes from the Sepedi phrase diphororo tša meetse — ‘strong gushing waterfalls.’ Here, landscapes are alive with rolling mountains, wide rivers, and misty valleys. Wildlife roams freely, waterfalls restore the soul, and each view carries the promise of discovery.

For guests, this land offers more than scenery. It is a place of adventure, reflection, and timeless connection to Africa’s wild heart.

Our Commitment to Conservation

Harnessing the Sun

The African sun does more than warm the land — it powers it. Through solar investment, energy needs are met in a way that sustains the environment and lightens the footprint on the earth.
